My new class

Last week I started a class through the continuing education program through the Granite School District called Granite Peaks. The class I'm taking now is called "Stop Thinking and Start Writing". I am so loving this class. I just got back from from second week of class and would like to share the peice I wrote that my teacher and fellow class attenders enjoyed.

That Distant Night

The sound of the distant thunder shuddered down my spine as I watched the fog roll in over the hills through my bedroom window. Shaken with fear from the thunderous noise Gussie, my dog, snuggled up to me for comfort. As I held her in my arms petting her in hopes to calm her down, I thought about the distant night when my life change dramatically…

I could hear him in the other room preparing what should’ve been an excellent meal of spicy tacos. I could smell the spice of the taco meat from where I sat by the fire in the front room and couldn’t wait for him to tell me dinner was done.

I continued to sit there by the fire waiting for dinner and thought about the perfect day I had spent with him. The day started nice and hot, an unusual for our fall like season. We walked barefoot on the hot sidewalk surrounding our home soaking in the heat. After a while we decided to take the advantage of the nice day to go up into the canyons for a nice long hike. We ended up at the waterfall where we walked down to the bottom to stand behind on the rocks. We shared a kiss standing underneath the waterfall and were cherishing the moment that we shared.

When the sun started to descend, we made our way back home feeling the air chill drastically.

Brought out of my reverie of our day adventure, I walked away from the fire to look out the window. My eyes popped open with surprise as I watched snowflakes gently fall to the ground.
Excited for the first snowfall of the year I ran into the kitchen to pull him outside with me. I grabbed the towel he was holding and tossed it to the side. He hollered in excitement as we danced around letting the snow fall around us. I saw a large snowflake land on his nose and decided to kiss the flake away which brought about my first taste of snowflakes that year.

We lost all sense of time as we absorbed the warmth our bodies brought to each other out in the snow touched air. Later my nose started sniffing the air as it detected the smell of smoke. I quickly turned to look at the house and saw the house filled with smoke and flames. My heart clenched with fear as I thought about my most precious possession sleeping at the moment in the nursery. I screamed at the top of my lungs running towards the front door to go retrieve my baby, but I was stopped from behind by my husband who in turn ran to fetch the baby.

Surrounding neighbors started to gather around to watch my home rapidly get destroyed by fire. I held my breath waiting for my loved ones to emerge from the fiery wrath. I heard the sound of sirens approaching from a distant as I realized my life had changed forever.

I did it!

I actually wrote a novel in one and a half months! I owe all that to Kelli and Myelle, who I work with, for all the support and encouragement they gave me concerning my writing. Thank you gals! Maybe one day you'll be able to see your name on my acknowledgement page of that book sitting on a bookshelf at Seagull Book!

Between the Lines by Erin Klingler

This book is written by a new author. I really loved this book it grabbed my attention since the very first page. I had a hard time putting this down, but that is true on most mystery\suspense books. If you read any Clair Poulson books, then you would love this book. It's about two reporters from different newspapers and states working together to bring down a crime ring and a U.S. Senator. As they work together they also start developing feelings towards each other which is a great plus for me, a hopeless romantic.

Escape to Zion by Jean Holbrook Mathews

This book is a historical fiction with a mix of suspense. This is Jean's second book, and this book is about an endenture servant whose master wouldn't let her go when her contract was up and was force to leave during the night. After escaping her former master she runs into guy who she ends up marrying. When she thought she was safe for good she learned differently when strangers show up to take her back to her master. This book is one I highly recommend. Not only do you get a great story, you also learn about some of the historical facts about our country.

Book Reviews

For those who don't know, I'm an avid reader. So I decided to start writing book reviews on my blog. The books I will review would be available at Seagull Book or Deseret Book, but since I work at Seagull Book I hope you come by to see me if you decided to get one of the books I review.

My bad touch

I feel like I have the "bad touch" when it comes to electricity. Last month I was watching a movie when the TV blew, which resoulted in us getting a new HDTV. Earlier this evening I was reading a book when the room was getting darker as the sun was going down so I went to turn on the lights to see and resoulted in the light popping followed by smoke. I'm starting to be afraid to turn on light switches now.

My Achin' Feet

Today I was in the mood to wear my brown outfit to work, and the only brown shoes I have are boots. Normally I won't wear my boots on a day that I have an eight hour sift, but today I thought I'd give it a try to see how it works. I now know not to ever wear my boots on an eight hour work shift. My feet are so sore that I can't walk around the house, and when I am walking I'm walking very slowly and crinching at each step. This also tells me that I really need to go find my some brown shoes that aren't boots.

A new addition

I have a new addition in my family. My sister Felicity had her second child yesterday by C-section. His name is Payson Kit. I was suppose to go up there and welcome him personally but since of bad weather it has been postponed until Friday.

The Holiday Season

I love this time of year. No, it's not because I get a cold about every other week. No, it's not the snow and ice on my car. No, it's not the shortness of sunlight. I love it because of the holiday season. I love listening to Christmas music, only if it is after Thanksgiving and before the new year. I love the Christmas movies. I love the lights around the house. I love our Christmas tree. I love watching it snow. I love the fact that it is this time of year that people think of others rather than themselves. It may be the darkest time of year, but it is the brightest of my life.

I'm Back!

It's been two years since I wrote on my blog. I decided to get started again since I know more people with blogs now.

I had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my family. It was nice having everyone under the same roof again, though it can be a bit chaotic. There was never a dull moment with my two little nephews who are now partners in crime. They got their two little hands into everything.

Yesterday I went and saw the movie Twilight. It was amazing. It followed the book pretty good. I can't wait until the next movie comes out.

Books

I thought I would tell you all that my life is all about books. I'm constantly reading books. I especially love to read books that are LDS suspense/romance novels. Right now I'm reading a book called "There's No Time To Love". I'm really loving the book and can't wait until I get back from class to start reading it again.

Brody Bud Evans

Today I went to my nephew Brody Bud Evans' baby blessing. This was the second time I got to see him. My sister Felicity and her husband Kit live in Bluebell, UT. It was a 2 1/2 hour drive up there. They had a delicious lunch that they served which I hate to admit but I had two helpings of everything. I did feel blotted afterwards, but by dinner time I was hungry as usual. Since I have school in the morning I'm going to have to wake up at 6:30 in the morning so that I can make it to class in time to take a test tomorrow. I've missed being down at Snow this weekend, but I've enjoyed seeing all of my family again.

November 3, 2006

This is the first time I've looked into this blog stuff and I'm still learning how to do this so bear with me. I've heard about this from a teacher and thought I'd look into it. I'm attending Snow College right now and I'm in my last year. Hopefully I'll be graduating in the spring. I'm majoring in Business Education in Desktop Publishing/Web Design. I'd have to say that Snow is great school to go to and that I'm glad I came here.

Today I had a quiz in my Spreadsheets for Business class and got 67% which is not good as you can see. Hopefully it won't bring down my grade too much. I'll also be taking off soon for home because on Sunday is my nephew Brody's baby blessing.
